On the left, the Age of Discoveries Monument at Belém, Lisbon, celebrates the golden age of Portuguese history - when its navigators and explorers discovered the globe. On the right, the Statue of Thomas Paine - world famous republican, free-thinker, and revolutionary, who was born in Thetford in 1737.
