So said Thomas Paine, born at Thetford in 1737, and recorded here on the base of his statue on Kings Street in front of Kings House (of all places for the old republican). In every age this message has been repeated (by John Lennon for example), and in every age its logic has been ignored in favour of bigotry, nationalism, intolerance and war.
