Gazing into the holding tanks - all the visitor sees are these dead timbers, preserved in the waters. In situ at Holme, they formed a a six and a half metre, close knit circle around the inverted tree stump altar. The effect would have been that of a fence. The user could only enter by squeezing through a split post. The 'circle' was in fact - off-round, slightly elongated.
