This attempt at experimental archaeology is based on the finds and post holes of a later 'Iron Age' round-house - as was common in lowland Britain between 800 BC and AD 43. It has a steep thatched conical roof - allowing rainwater to be shed and drained quickly. When looking at late prehistoric housing in Britain, its important to remember how wet and windy these islands can be - a prerequisite for strong damp proof housing design and materials. Smoke from the central hearth filtered through the thatched material.
