Elizabeth Matilda Tugwell was born in Reading, Berkshire during 1877 - the daughter of a stone mason. In 1903, while in service in Colchester, she met a soldier from Bedfordshire, named Henry Burnage. They married and settled in her home town of Reading. Here she is about 1937 holding her granddaughter Noreen Brown.
